Education Exhibition (Part 2)
17 Jan 2010, at Ciputra Hotel,Jakarta, organized by Erajasa Globalindo.
University, college & institution participants are among the best in Australia, UK and the world. Some of them are UNSW, The University of Queensland , Monash University, RMIT University, IALF and others from UK , Singapore.
Free IELTS try out was conducted timely. Around 50 prospective students participated in this try out. IELTS general information presentation was given by IALF supervisor before the test. Only Reading and Listening part of the test were given on that day. Fortunately, IALF who administrates the test, send test result by e-mail a week after. In this well organized events parents and students are fully helped with the valuable information, and the education fair goal was achieved.
ISIS TIP: You must take at least twice try outs before the real test.

Boston University, Massachusetts is one of the most favorite universities to go. Wide varieties of majors offered, but it is not easy to be admitted. You must be well prepared and apply in advance. Boston is the heart of US education, since in the greater area of Boston there are MIT, Harvard, Norteastern Univ. and other TOP universities.
Univ. of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin is popular for Indonesian students. More than 50 Indonesian students finishing their degree in this big university. Attending this univ., you won't be lonely. University of South Florida, Tampa, FL is located in very diverse community. Many foreign students make their choices since its diversity and large number of students, more than 40,000 enrollments.
Iowa State University of Science and Technology have many varieties of science and engineering majors. Biochemistry, for example, is one of the rare expertise.
Ohio Univ. Athens, OH, offers 250 undergraduate, 170 master's and 50 doctorate program. Rare majors such as Biochemistry Science and Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering are offered.
Fulbright scholarship programs for 2011 - 2012 are offered in this education fair.

CES organized and offered arrangements to some universities and colleges from Malaysia, Australia and Singapore. Available scholarships for international students was offered by ESLI Director at Eastern University, St Davids, Pennsylvania, and ESLI Director at Canada Trinity Western University in Langley, Vancouver, B.C. Canada. Economic tuition fees and specific transfer credit arrangements to Top Universities in California , also offered by Diablo Valley College in Bay Area, CA.

North Central College, Napperville, ILLINOIS is unique college with excellent educational and business environment. It is only 2 minute walk to train station that bring you to Chicago in only 30 minutes. Central except transfer credits from other colleges.
University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire , WI offers attractive and wide choices in Certificate Programs, Pre- Professionals Programs, and Graduate Degree.
University of San Francisco is favorite in California. USF is accredited by WASC and AACSB for undergraduate and graduates. Its campus is excellent and green , I used to run from the university to Golden Gate Park when I was studying in some universities in San Francisco. I visited USF for Job Fair years ago.
Edmonds Community College, El Camino College and Foothill & De Anza Colleges offer economic tuition fees with opportunities to transfer to the TOP universities after 2 years in college.
Fulbright scholarship programs for 2011 and 2012 are offered by AMINEF in this fair.

In the last few months, many international universities and colleges have participated in some Education Fair in major cities. Many of them have official representatives in Jakarta. Moreover, some of them are in cooperation with universities and colleges in Indonesia.
Education Fair usually held in Jakarta, Bandung , Surabaya, Medan and other cities. The participants in these events are extraordinary. Among them are universities and colleges, prospecting students and parents, also some established local & international education consultants, authorized testing agencies, visa & ticketing agencies.
In cooperation with international universities and colleges, some state and private universities in Indonesia, offers Dual Degree Programs. Usually these programs can be concluded in 2 years in Indonesia and another 2 years abroad. Finishing the program, students earn S1 and Bachelor degree.
However, one of the best solution to reduce total education costs significantly is Dual Degree Programs. For example, University of Indonesia offers a dual degree program in cooperation with Keio University in Economics and Monash University in Medicine. Universitas Pelita Harapan , one of the biggest private university, also offers a dual degree program in cooperation with the University of Ballarat, AU in Computer Science and the University of Newcastle, UK in Industrial Technology.

FAQ By Students And Parents
IMPORTANT TERMS & REVIEW
Friends of mine asking some terms relating to their children education plans in US. Only a few terms listed below will be reviewed.
A-LEVEL
Advanced-Level of General Certificate of Education.
Not all universities or colleges require A-Level score. It's an advantage if you have it. However, if you can attend a foundation year,you must ask to admission office if A-level score is required. Some universities use A-Level or O-Level scores as significant factors in evaluating scholarship.
AACSB
Association to Advanced Collegiate Schools of Business
To have better job opportunities and salary, try to attend business school which has AACSB accreditation. The univ. and college that are accredited by AACSB usually need higher scores in TOEFL & GMAT, the competition is very high.
CBT
Computer-Based Test of TOEFL.
no longer used , now replaced by iBT
ETS
Educational Testing Service.
Institute who administers TOEFL.
GCSE
General Certificate of Secondary Education.
If You are SMU with SNI, Standard National Indonesia, What you need is good report book and SMU diploma.
GMAT
Graduate Management Admission Test.
Most graduate business programs require GMAT. It must be well prepared. It's not easy. For Indonesian students, GMAT test is very difficult. Many GMAT preparation courses are offered in Jakarta. Six months of preparation is recommended.
GRE
Graduate Record Examination, for graduate admission.
It's administered by ETS .
Ask to the admission office if it is really required.
iBT
Internet-Based Test of TOEFL.
Try to have the highest possible Toefl score. The higher your score the higher your chance to attend better quality university. Since iBT is the fastest, plan to have at least 2 two iBT test. Join some Toefl try out sessions which are given for free in most education fair. Try to have min score of 79 for undergraduate and 89 for graduate.
IELTS
International English Language Testing System.
IELTS Academic version, for higher education test purposes.
If you want to go to college, then take academic version.
But for other purposes, then take general training test version.
Try to have min score of Band 6.5 for undergraduate and min score of Band 7 for graduate.

General training version can't be used for college purposes.

International version of General Certificate of Secondary Education.

TOEFL Test Of English as a Foreign Language.
It is to score your English proficiency. Prepare at least one year and try hard to acheve min score of 550 PBT .The better university needs the higher score.

Since last September many Universities & Colleges around the world have been competing in influencing SMU students and parents to continue their education abroad. In this months SMU, Senior High School, students are preparing for UAN, Ujian Akhir Nasional that is National Final Examination. Universities & Colleges offer their best quality education with various fields of study. Many of them are frequent participants in International Education Exhibitions held in major cities in Indonesia. Who are they? What level of quality they are offering? Are they qualified? Do the students & parents know their own objectives?
Many Indonesian parents are very proud of having sons or daughters graduated from abroad, especially from USA and Australia, The facts that American and Australian graduates holds important position in prestigious companies and organizations. These graduates mostly from well accredited Universities & Colleges.
In Indonesia, it is a common that friends and relatives are significant factors in determining what field to study, which city to go, how to pay, and how long to stay abroad. Without knowing the accreditation status of Universities and Colleges, any information with intensive marketing efforts from them may mislead the students and parents’ objectives. It is the time to give better understanding of accreditation to SMU students and parents. Who will do?
However, many parents’ objectives are to send their children to have international experience, speak English fluently, degree from abroad, and working experience. After having degree, the children may works for parents’ companies; It is another crucial fact. Living abroad for years have strong influence in the graduates’ attitude and level of confidence. It is because many graduates will be in the regeneration processes of their parents’ companies.
On the other hand, some parents, who know a little about accreditation issue, try hard to figure out not only the chance of earning degree, but also the chance of acceptance. Again , who will give accreditation information ?
